Antigua and Barbuda is a two-island nation located in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean and achieved full independence in 1981.  Just over 281 sq. km, Antigua is the largest of the Leeward Islands.

Sugar became Antigua’s main crop in the 17thC. Nelson’s Dockyard, named after Horatio Nelson (British naval commander) provided a base for a squadron of British ships whose main function was to patrol the West Indies to maintain Britain’s sea power. Today, Nelson’s Dockyard has been historically restored to reflect the naval heritage of English Harbour and is a favourite port for yachtsman the world over.
