The US Virgin Islands are located in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean about 90 miles east of Puerto Rico. St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John make up the three distinctly different islands and Water Island in the harbour of St. Thomas is now considered the 4th island. The capital is Charlotte Amalie and is located in St. Thomas.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are an organized, unincorporated United States territory but once belonged to Denmark. The Danish influence is still seen in the names of its streets and towns. St. Croix has historical significance through its years of strife but is now a peaceful island with tropical secondary forest. St. John is two-thirds national park making it a nature lover’s paradise. St. Thomas is the most touristy of the three islands and houses the cruise port terminal and a mega yacht marina in Charlotte Amalie and a yacht charter marina in East End Red Hook. The challenging trio of cliff side holes at the Mahogany Run Golf Course is aptly named the Devil’s Triangle.
English is the primary language. There are two international airports, one in St. Thomas and one on St. Croix. The USD is their currency but their British connections still have them driving on the left.
