The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory and consist of 40 islands of which 8 are currently inhabited. Turks and Caicos Islands span a total area of 417 sq. km. and are located southeast of the Bahamas, north of the Dominican Republic and 494 nautical miles from Miami. The main tourist area is on Providenciales while both Middle Caicos and North Caicos are quieter and more relaxed. The historic capital, Cockburn Town is located on Grand Turk and is the main cruise ship port for the Turks & Caicos.
