Barbados is situated just east of the Caribbean Sea in the western Atlantic Ocean, 100 miles east of St. Vincent. It has been an independent state within the Commonwealth of Nations since 1966. Barbados functions as a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, modelled on the British Westminster system.
