Meet Anne Brobyn:
Anne Brobyn is a tourism trailblazer, an award-winning travel expert, teacher, and the force behind Hibiscus International. A true citizen of the world, Anne followed through with her retirement plan at the age of 32, while living in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. <read her personal story>
Anne began her career as a youth worker and college professor. During those early years, she pioneered a series of successful cultural immersion trips for college students, starting with tours to St. Vincent, an island she knew so well. From that point on she followed her passion taking on contracts and projects that excited her and soon became a leading innovator in global real estate and lifestyle travel.
For 18 years, Anne designed enriching, immersive cultural tours for leading educational organizations with programs in Grenada, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Cuba, Jamaica, Guyana and St. Vincent — as well as overseas destinations including Spain, Italy and Micronesia. During this time, she created the very first Caribbean study abroad cultural program, endorsed by the University of the West Indies. Anne innovated a wide range of enriching experiences, from historical walking tours in Barbados, birding programs in Trinidad & Tobago and marine biology programs in Grenada, to arts, music and culture experiences in Jamaica, culinary and wine tours in Italy, an immersive language program in Spain, and unique history tours of the Mariana, Marshall and Caroline Islands.
Market Development Officer for the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)
From 2002 to 2005, Anne became the Canadian market development officer for the Caribbean Tourism Organization, responsible for driving sustainable tourism across 30 Caribbean islands. It was a role that exponentially grew her travel insight, regional contacts, and Caribbean cultural knowledge, allowing her to emerge as a leading authority on Caribbean travel.
Travel and Tourism Education (Humber, Seneca, and Georgian Colleges & Online for IATA, The Learning Library, CITC and Education Systems)
Teaching, mentoring and organizing groups were always among Anne’s foremost passions. Over her three decades as an educator, she has developed and taught youth work and tourism-related curriculum at Humber College, Seneca College and Georgian College, spanning a wide range of topics including tour development, tour leadership, geography, entrepreneurship, spa tourism, ecotourism, event and attraction promotion, to name just a few.
In 1997, Anne founded THE Travel School, an accredited niche tour operator training program, as a division of Hibiscus Tours International Ltd. Home base for the school was in Toronto, with satellite classes held in Vancouver, Halifax, Boston and Chicago.
Real Estate Tourism Innovator
In 2005, Anne shifted her focus and took on projects assisting hotel and residential developers seeking critical cultural insights and access to her professional network in the Caribbean. Through these unique assignments, Anne leveraged her experience and knowledge and from there began organizing her highly acclaimed real estate tours and cruises – unique in the tourism industry today.
The world pandemic didn’t slow Anne down as she took the opportunity to create another division of Hibiscus International called the Real Estate Travel Academy. RETA now houses the educational tools necessary for the marketing and promotion of real estate tourism, including engaging Podcasts, a growing YouTube channel called HibiscusTV while maintaining a vibrant social media network.
