Bermuda

Bermuda

Bermuda is a self-governing British territory made up of an archipelago of 7 main islands and about 170 additional islets. Bermuda is situated about 650 miles (1,050 km) east of Cape Hatteras (North Carolina, U.S.) near the Sargasso Sea in the Atlantic Ocean. It is neither geologically nor spatially associated with the Caribbean, which lies more than 800 miles (1,300 km) to the south and southwest. The largest island is Main Island and the highest point there is The Peak rising to only 259 ft. (79 metres). The capital is Hamilton but the largest city is St. George which is steeped in history and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.

Bermuda is famous for its pink sand beaches, which get their colour from one of the sand’s main components, pulverized coral and shells.  The stunning reefs which ring the islands makes Bermuda one of the world’s top SCUBA diving destinations.

Of Note: Visitors to Bermuda should be aware it’s against the law for foreigners to rent or hire a car. The law is a safety measure and has been created to avoid overcrowding and accidents on the islands winding, narrow roads.
